Managing Cases In Family Connections

Learn about how to create and manage cases in Family Connections

Family Connections is the visual tree building tool published by Connect Our Kids. Social Workers, CASA volunteers, and family recruiters use Family Connections to build visual trees of relationships and supporters for children in foster care. 

Requirements

To create a new case, you must have the "Create Cases And Assign Permissions" role - which can be assigned to you by your Family Connections "Team Manager". Read the "Managing Permissions In Family Connections" article to learn more. 

Create A New Case

  • Click the "Add Case" button at the top

  • If you do not see an "Add Case" button, you do not have permission to manage cases. If your permissions were recently changed, logout and log back-in

  • Click the "Add Photo" circle to assign the case a new cover photo

  • Enter at least the first or last name for the child - and the full name if possible

  • All other details fields are optional, but may be useful to your fellow team members

  • The "Date added to caseload" field is the date on which you want to indicate the case started in your process. 

  • Click "Add Case" at the bottom of the details panel

Manage The Case Status

  • Visit the Family Connections Cases page

  • Click the a case to select it

  • Click the dropdown arrow next to "Case Status"

  • Choose the case status from the drop down

  • If you choose "Closed" you will see another drop down, asking you to define the outcome for the case

Work On A Case

  • Visit the Family Connections Cases page

  • Click once on a case to view the current status and details

  • Double click a case icon, or click the "Work On Case" to open the case

Delete A Case

Note that deleting a case in a permanent and immediate action that can not be undone. 

  • Visit the Family Connections Cases page

  • Click once a case to select it

  • Click the small pencil icon in the upper right

  • Click the "Delete Case" button at the bottom

  • Enter the case name as shown to confirm you are deleting the correct case

  • Read the following prompt

  • Then click the "Delete Case" button
