Unpacking the "No" to Permanency

Have you ever experienced a youth telling you that they do not want permanency? Have they ever told you "I have been fine on my own", "I don't need anyone", or " I'm too old, no one will want me"? Well, you are not alone!

When youth are not able to reunify with their biological parent/s they might be hesitant to accept other types of permanency options even when it is with other relatives or connections.

Connect Our Kids is dedicated to helping you find these other relatives and connections, but there still is a lot of preparation that needs to be done.

There are several reasons why youth in foster care might say โ€œnoโ€ when it comes to finding a permanent home. We as child welfare workers owe it to these youth to explore their answers rather than asking once and moving on.
