How do I set up my email application?

To send an email from Family Connections or People Search, make sure your system's default email client is set correctly!

You can always perform an action on any of the results your People Search returns. If the action you are planning to perform is the 'send emails' function, your default email application will be used. To successfully send emails from our tools, please make sure your default email application is set correctly with the steps below.

Change the Default Email Application on a PC With Windows 10

  1. Click ‘Start’ to open the start menu located in the bottom left of your screen (the icon that looks like the Windows flag)

  2. Select ‘Settings’ (the icon that looks like a gear or flower, should be the second icon from the bottom on the left)

  3. Select ‘Apps’ (the icon that looks like a checklist)

  4. Select ‘Default Apps’ (the icon that looks like a smaller checklist)

  5. Underneath the ‘Email’ header, select your current default email client

  6. Here you should see a list of options under ‘Choose an app’, Select the email client that you’d like to become your default app

Change the Default Email Application on a Mac With IOS

If you are using a web browser for email today, you will need to install that email app on your computer before taking the below steps. Mac does not allow for a web browser to be a default email app.

  1. Click the ‘Mail’ app

  2. Click ‘Mail’

  3. Click ‘Preferences’

  4. Click ‘General’

  5. Select the email client app that you’d like to become your default app from the ”Default email reader” menu
